Shred Nations Awards $5,000 Scholarship for
2018-2019 Academic Year
Shred Nations announced the $5,000 scholarship recipient
for the 2018/2019 academic school year at the NAID 2018
Conference in Nashville, TN.
The Shred Nations Scholarship Program has awarded the
2018/2019, $5,000 scholarship, to Habeeb Salau. Salau will
attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the fall
to study Chemical Engineering and International Studies. His
goal is to work with developing countries around the world to
design efficient large-scale batteries to store peak energy.
The scholarship promotes the advancement of the secure
destruction industry by investing in the next generation of
professionals. The program provides financial assistance
for an annual higher education scholarship for National
Association of Information Destruction (NAID®) members,
employees, and their families.
From the approximately 20 applications received, the final
decision came down to six incredible applicants. Afterward
came a rigorous evaluation process by which the selection
committee determined the scholarship recipient. In what
ended up being a very difficult and close decision, the
selection committee was pleased to announce Salau as the
first recipient of the Shred Nations’ Scholarship.
According to NAID Director of Marketing & Communications,
Kelly Martínez, “The Shred Nations Scholarship Program is a
great initiative that actively fosters the advancement of our
membership community with the future in mind. The high
caliber of applications received was staggering and shows that
our members are raising up the next generation of excellent
minds and leaders. We thank Shred Nations for equipping
them to take on tomorrow and look forward to next year’s
application pool.”
Applicants are required to submit a nomination from a NAID
member. NAID members are comprised of any employee or
owner of a NAID member company. Applicants must have
completed secondary school, or currently be a senior in a
secondary school, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 with an interest
in business, environmental studies, or the shredding and
recycling industry.
Shred Nations will begin accepting applications for the
2019/2020 academic school year on June 1, 2018. Applications
must be received by the posted deadline, Monday, January
28, 2019. The winner will be flown to the 2019 NAID Annual
Conference to be presented their scholarship award.
“Shred Nations recognizes the benefits of continuing
